Slightly ahead of schedule, a new public beta of HitFilm is now available. This brings a few important changes and additions, especially for AVCHD users:
• Dolby Digital audio decoding is now supported for AVCHD videos.
• Improved AVCHD video decoding performance.
• NEW Derez effect and preset, custom designed for Freddie Wong's Video Game High School web series. Tutorial coming soon!
We'd really like your feedback on this version, especially if you use AVCHD. If you've had performance problems with the format in HitFilm before, please try the new beta and let us know how you get on.
What is a public beta?
Beta software means 'test software'. This isn't an official release yet, so it's up to you whether you use it or not. Although this version should be entirely stable, we don't recommend using it for important projects until the official release.
If all goes smoothly the official release should follow in a week-or-so.

Thanks for the reports, guys, very useful. Any other AVCHD users out there who can give that side of things a whirl?
Robin - to get derez to display you need to assign the mask setting to a layer. Although that won't help until these crashing issues are resolved.

The updated installers can now be downloaded from the links in the main post.
Let us know if this fixes the Derez issue (and also how the AVCHD is going!)

Hi,
The installers for HitFilm have never allowed for the installation location to be changed.
The installer will always install to your default Windows installation drive, we have had requests to allow the installation destination to be changed but at present it cannot.
Sorry

The "preview" window is on my secondary monitor, and show jaggies or pixelation of fast moving objects during play back at highest resolution. However these are not present after a render.
So far the only problem I have had is with projects created in previous versions. Needed to modify a starfield project I created several versions ago. Opening the project and trying to modify the comp shot, the playback head is very sluggish. There is a huge lag when trying to grab and drag the playhead. At times there is what seems a second to two lag when starting and stopping playback from the keyboard.
I have not tried the derez yet.

Long time owner of Ultimate, newbie editor.
Been reading forum posts over the past few months with great patience that I would be able to inport my .mts files that have Dolby audio into my Hitfilm Ultimate so that I can hear sound. I've been only use these files with Cyberlink PowerDirector 10 but I've been anxious to do REAL COOL effects with Ultimate but didn't want to demux or go through the extra steps of converting my original files to something else Ultimate can read without messing things up or confusing myself.
Sorry to ramble, but my question is this. If this beta goes through ok, and solves the problem I and I guess others have been having, would I have to purchase a brand new copy of Ultimate again or will there be an update that would fix my installed copy?
Thanks again for all you do! Brilliant product. Been viewing the tutorials and have done cool titles experiments with particle effects but if the Dolby thing is fixed I can't wait to do more.
